Visit by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the EURORANDO region
A special tribute to tourism, volunteer work, and the upcoming EURORANDO 2026: Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the Ore Mountains on July 24. Just a few weeks before the major European tourism festival, the EURORANDO host region was once again in the spotlight.
The Federal President, together with representatives from the political sphere and tourism associations, walked approximately seven kilometers from Auersberg to the Sosa Dam. The visit focused on the volunteer work of people who maintain and mark hiking trails and who are dedicated to nature, the community, and the vibrant social life within hiking clubs.
The hike also had a special European dimension: Frank-Walter Steinmeier personally installed new signage for the E3 European long-distance hiking trail. A fitting symbol in light of EURORANDO 2026, which will bring people from many European countries to the Ore Mountains from September 20 to 27, 2026.
As patron of EURORANDO 2026, the German Federal President, together with Czech President Petr Pavel, supports the idea behind this special tourism festival: to bring people together across borders, to foster encounters, and to experience the shared natural and cultural landscape of the Ore Mountains and the Krušnohoří region. This is exactly what EURORANDO represents. For one week, the cross-border Ore Mountains will become a meeting place for the European hiking community. Numerous guided tours as well as self-guided walks on both the German and Czech sides invite participants to hike together, meet new people, and discover the region step by step.
The visit by the Federal President, just a few weeks before the event begins, underscores the special importance of tourism for community and understanding. At the same time, it is a great tribute to all those whose dedication is creating the conditions that will make EURORANDO 2026 a unique European tourism experience in the Ore Mountains.
From September 20 to 27, 2026, the theme will be: exploring together, pushing boundaries, and experiencing Europe in the Ore Mountains.
