The starting point for this impressive hike is Rittersgrün swimming pool. After a few minutes, hikers reach “Kammweg Erzgebirge-Vogtland” ridge trail, one of the most beautiful long-distance hiking trails in Germany. The trail leads to Fritzschberg, where a magnificent rest area with panoramic views invites you to take your first break.

From here, the trail continues deep into the Ore Mountains forest. The route soon leaves the ridge trail to the left and makes an exciting detour across the border into the Czech Republic. The destination is Halbemeiler Wiesn: a special place with a moving story about the vanished village of Halbemeile. Tourists should take the time to stop here and let the atmosphere work its magic.

A little later, hikers arrive at the small chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. This quiet, lovingly maintained gem in the heart of the forest also invites you to sit down and rest. Back in Germany, the trail leads around the so-called Himmelswiese (Heavenly Meadow) and on to Oschützfelsen, which offers a fantastic view of the green Rittersgrün valley.

Finally, the trail descends back to the village of Rittersgrün. Another highlight is the Saxon Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, which brings history to life. After a final break, the return journey takes you along the opposite side of the valley, affording ever-changing views of Rittersgrün, picturesquely nestled between forest and meadows.
