This one-day hike along the ridge trail leads from the Schwarzwassertal valley to Reitzenhain and back through Czech territory.
This varied one-day hike takes you on a circular route of approximately 17.6 km along the ridge of the Ore Mountains, which stretches across both the Saxon and Czech Ore Mountains. Particularly exciting is the constant alternation between dense forests and vast, open heathland landscapes, which gives the region its unique character.
The starting point is the tourist car park in the Schwarzwassertal valley in Kühnhaide. From here, the route follows a ridge trail that leads past the small village of Kühnhaide towards the Stengelhaide heath nature trail. The heathland nature trail is the real highlight of the hike. Here, various display boards provide you with more information about the fascinating flora and traditional peat extraction in the region.
The trail continues around the charcoal kiln to Reitzenhain, where you cross the border into the Czech Republic. On the Czech side, you pass through the former village of Pohraniční (Böhmisch Reitzenhain), which was officially abolished in 1955.
The route then leads through idyllic forests and via Böhmisch Kühnhaide until you reach the highest point of the hike: Lauschhübel, at an altitude of 842 meters. At the top, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside.
After descending from Lauschhübel, the route leads back to the starting point in the Schwarzwassertal valley. If you wish, you can end your hike at the cozy Schwarzwassertal inn and begin your journey home in a relaxed atmosphere.
