The town of Horní Blatná was founded in the times of the greatest glory of mining in the Ore Mountains. In its surroundings you can explore the major technical works that brought about this boom. In addition, there is the beautiful mountain landscape and extinct villages with all their poetry.
We will start the trip at the new parking lot in Horní Blatná below the square. The local square is a typical example of the Renaissance square plan and you will find beautiful period buildings and the large church of St. Lawrence.
From the square we head up towards Blatenský vrch with its lookout tower. On the way we will pass the small local museum in a typical Ore Mountains half-timbered house, and the giant St. Lawrence's bench. Through the famous Vlčí jámy (Wolf Pits), a former 16th-century tin mine that forms a spectacular canyon, and the so-called Ledová jáma (Ice Pit), we climb to the top of Blatenský vrch, where there is a lookout tower. From here we will descend to the level of the Blatenský vodní příkop (a water ditch), which brought water to the local mines from Boží Dar. Passing the former mines we will reach the unique sinkhole of the Zuzana tin mine above the abandoned village of Háje. Between the former villages of Háje and Luhy we are accompanied by the Černá river.
In the former Luhy we will return to the forest path,walking through the forest to the impressive Strašidla (Scarecrow) rocks. From here it is only a kilometer and a half back to the square in Horní Blatná. We will be rewarded with the Faust restaurant or other facilities in town.
