This varied hike combines sweeping views with peaceful forest trails and impressive cultural experiences in the heart of the Ore Mountains.
The hike starts in Lauter, near the outdoor pool, on the European long-distance hiking trail E3, which you follow to the Danelchristelgut estate. Here, we recommend taking a short break at the snack bar in the garden before the trail turns right: away from the E3 and up to the Sachsenstein viewpoint. The view from here is simply breathtaking and rewards you with a magnificent panorama of the low mountain landscape.
Shortly afterwards, the route rejoins the E3. The trail then leads past the Conradswiese forest school and the cozy Morgenleithe mountain inn with its observation tower – another great opportunity for refreshments. This is followed by a long, shady section through the dense Ore Mountains forest, where you can relax and find peace and quiet.
Finally, the trail leaves E3 and connects to the EB trail. Please note: A short section runs along the road. In Antonsthal, the panorama opens up for a moment, inviting you to visit the historic silver mill – a living part of mining history.
The route then continues towards Schwarzenberg, a town steeped in charm, history, and diversity. Again and again, fascinating views of rolling hills open up. A special highlight of the route is the detour to the Schwarzenberg Forest Stage (one of the largest of its kind in Germany).
The circular route soon ends and the trail rejoins the E3 route. We continue through varied natural landscapes, past a memorable nine-trunk beech tree and down into the romantic Griese Valley. Here, water gently murmurs and accompanies hikers back to the starting point – full of nature, culture, and the diversity of the Ore Mountains.
