This hike along the educational and mining trail takes you to the World Heritage site of "Hoher Forst" in the Ore Mountains mining area and is very well marked with information panels.
The starting point of the approximately 6 km long circular hike is the Alte Wiesenburger Landstraße near Kirchberg. From here you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the foothills of the Ore Mountains up to Thuringia and Leipzig.
The trail continues to the "Schöne Aussicht" (beautiful view), from where you can see the Silver Trail and the village of Weißbach with its Baroque Salvator Church. Shortly afterwards, you will reach a lovingly designed rest area at the "Engländerstolln" (English Adit), built by prisoners of war and now an important natural habitat for bats, birds and rare plants.
The historic "Martin-Römer-Stolln" is marked by a field of pits. The trail continues to the impressive motte-and-bailey castle of the abandoned mining town of Fürstenberg and through the 10,000 m² former mine area with its medieval remains.
After the bridleway, you will reach the "Kleiner Hirschenstein" (Small Deer Stone), a mystical-looking rock formation on the edge of the Kirchberg granite massif. Next, the deep "Hechtlöcher" (Pike Holes) - the characteristic pits of the deep Martin-Römer adit - await you.
Here, spectacular views of the varied hilly landscape open up in all directions. The nature trail ends back at the starting point, having offered you a wealth of information about the nature, history and traditions of the Ore Mountains.
