This circular hike follows the coal miners' trail around Sosa and offers spectacular views of the coal miners' village.
Even today, in Sosa, you can experience firsthand one of humanity’s oldest crafts. A circular hike along the Charcoal Burners’ Trail around Sosa takes you past historic charcoal-burning sites and offers stunning panoramic views of the idyllic village with its tradition of charcoal burning. Along the way, you can also watch the last commercial charcoal burner in the Ore Mountains at work. Near the large parking lot by the reservoir is a former quarry for stones used in the construction of the Sosa Dam between 1949 and 1952. This quarry later housed a charcoal kiln and is currently being converted into a demonstration charcoal kiln.
A visit to Sosa reservoir itself is also impressive, offering breathtaking views across the water to the Auersberg mountain and deep into the wild and romantic Höllengrund valley.
