A relaxing hike with breathtaking views and fairy-tale charm.
This varied circular route starts at the parking lot below Pöhlberg. A short climb leads to the "Butterfässer" (Butter Barrels), a remarkable basalt rock formation that enchants visitors with its unspoiled natural form on the left side of the trail. Opposite, the middle Pöhlberg circular trail branches off, which hikers now take. This trail has recently been enhanced with small fairy-tale stops, making it particularly enchanting for families with children.
After just a few steps, a magnificent panorama unfolds: the view stretches across fields, rows of trees, and villages to the Ore Mountains with the peaks of Keilberg and Fichtelberg on the horizon. In the first half of the hike, this vast landscape accompanies hikers and repeatedly invites them to pause and admire it.
About halfway along the route, there is a possible detour to the St. Briccius mine – a testament to the mining history of the area. However, this short detour is only recommended for confident hikers.
The trail continues across flat terrain through lush mixed forest, past a former quarry with old clay pits and the site of a former ski jump, which now exists only as a historical monument. Finally, the circuit meets the old bobsleigh track and ends back at the starting point, having taken in impressive views, peaceful nature, and a touch of fairy-tale magic.
