The starting point for this varied tour is Zschopau train station. From here, you can see the impressive Wildeck Castle towering above the town. In 1926, this "town of motorcycles" began its success story with the world's first motorcycle assembly line. By 1928, the DKW brand had made Zschopau the largest motorcycle factory in the world. Those who want to delve deeper can visit the motorcycle exhibition in the castle or the German Enduro Museum in the former DKW factory.

Modern art and European heritage can be seen in the artwork "Fließgleichgewicht" (Fluid Equilibrium) on the Purple Trail, which is part of the Chemnitz 2025 European Capital of Culture program.

This nature-focused hiking trail runs along the Zschopau River through green banks, gardens, and always close to cool water. A real treat, especially on warm days. In Hennersdorf, a covered wooden bridge immediately catches the eye before the trail climbs through a deciduous forest to the Kunnerstein viewpoint. From here, you can enjoy an impressive view of the Zschopau Valley.

A little further up the hill and you will reach another highlight: Augustusburg Castle – the jewel of the Ore Mountains. The former hunting lodge of the Saxon electors offers plenty of opportunities for explorers and those seeking relaxation. You will enjoy a number of museums, restaurants, and panoramic views. The castle is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Central Europe. A guided tour offers a glimpse into the castle church with its famous altar by Lucas Cranach the Younger, as well as the well with the oldest preserved horse-driven water wheel, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019 as an associated site of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří. Just below the castle lies the historic old town with the impressive St. Peter's Church, which will house the 360° Sound World organ project, a unique European cultural monument, from the end of September 2026. At the entrance to Princess Anna's garden, you will discover the second work of art from the Purple Trail, the sculpture "Inside."

Those who do not want to walk the entire route can take the historic cable car from Augustusburg down to Erdmannsdorf on the banks of the Zschopau River or change to the Zschopautal Railway at several points along the route. This cable car can also be used for the return journey to the starting point.
