38 🇩🇪 | Gerstenberg Circular Trail – A Taste of Canada in the Ore Mountains

This easy and informative circular hike starts at the parking lot at the Eibenstock Dam, Saxony's largest drinking water reservoir. From there, a wide, easily passable forest path leads around Gerstenberg Hill. At the first intersection in the peaceful world of coniferous forests, hikers turn to the left and follow the main path, which winds gently through lush green forests.

The still water of the reservoir repeatedly appears between the trees on the left, tempting you to continue on your way. Information panels along the trail provide interesting facts about nature and the region – ideal for a hike full of "aha!" moments.

About halfway through the hike, there is an option to take an approximately 800-meter detour to the dam. Don't miss out on this unique experience. The path is paved or concrete and easy to walk on, although some sections can be a little steep. Once you reach the dam, you can not only enjoy the beautiful view of the water, but also refill your bottle with fresh water from the reservoir for free.

Back on the main trail, a rest area with a view of the reservoir invites you to take a break. Surrounded by mostly dark coniferous forests, you will feel almost like you are in northern Canada: peace, vastness, and untouched nature. Further along the trail, you will see the first traces of historical tin mining, as the area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region."
