Dense forests and a unique peak
The starting point for this impressive circular route is Sauschwemme, a former inn with a historic atmosphere. Directly opposite is a popular parking lot for tourists, which serves as the starting point for a number of excursions in the Auersberg area.
The approximately 9-kilometer-long trail initially leads uphill toward the summit, but soon turns right and plunges into the dense Ore Mountains forest. Especially in autumn, fog often hovers above the trees, giving the landscape an almost mystical atmosphere. Along the way, we repeatedly pass small streams that quietly accompany us throughout the entire route.
The ascent itself begins approximately halfway through the hike. The trail climbs increasingly steeply along the Simmigweg. Once you reach the summit of Auersberg, the forest opens up to reveal one of the most famous peaks in the Ore Mountains. With an altitude of over 1,000 meters, the Auersberg towers above the surrounding area and invites you to climb the observation tower. The reward is a breathtaking panoramic view of forests, hills, idyllic villages, and the dark blue Sosa reservoir. The Ore Mountains at their purest.
The inn at the summit is the ideal place to grab a bite to eat, recharge your batteries, and reward yourself for the climb. The nature trail on Auersberg also provides interesting information about the local flora and fauna.
The descent then leads along the southern side of the mountain along the historic path to Auersberg back to the starting point at the Sauschwemme inn.
