The Henneberg/Oberjugel circular hiking trail begins in Johanngeorgenstadt at a veritable collection of Ore Mountain symbols: a large Christmas pyramid, life-size figures of exiles, and the world’s largest freestanding Schwibbogen (arched candleholder) offer a unique prelude to what lies ahead.The trail leads past an interesting horse-drawn winch. This technical monument brings the history of mining to life. Shortly thereafter, the trail enters the forest, while a natural swimming area glimmers through the trees on the right. This idyllic spot invites visitors to cool off on warm days.

A well-maintained hiking trail runs along the Henneber Forest Road, leading deep into the quiet forests of the Ore Mountains. The destination is the Kleiner Kranichsee raised bog and nature reserve, one of the best-preserved peat bogs in the higher mid-mountain regions. A wooden observation deck offers a view of this fascinating landscape—delicate, untouched, and teeming with life.

A new attraction along the route is the plant trail near the Henneberg Inn, which showcases rare peatland plants found only in high moors—a small botanical wonder.

The trail continues to the edge of the forest near Oberjugel, a secluded part of Johanngeorgenstadt that offers soothing silence and breathtaking views. Crossing an old bobsled track, the route leads through the forest down into the romantic Lehmer Grund valley with its typical spruce forests and Ore Mountains atmosphere. From there, the trail returns to the starting point of this peaceful loop trail.
