The trail begins in the spa town of Oberwiesenthal. Germany’s highest town serves as the starting point for this 18.6-kilometer border adventure. From the start, the route steadily winds uphill and downhill along forest paths and alpine trails, always offering views of the rugged ridge landscape and the nearby border. Those who wish can take a short detour to the natural rock viewpoint at Amtssteigfelsen, which offers magnificent views of the entire region.

Passing the Bächelhütte (mountain hut) and the Börnerwiese nature reserve, you’ll reach Tellerhäuser, where you can take a break at the “Zwergentreff” (a rest area with a fairy-tale theme). You will now cross the border into the Czech Republic. The trail continues through dense forests and along marked hiking trails toward the village Boží Dar (literally ‘God’s Gift’). Along the way, there are plenty of interesting sights to discover. Follow the Christkindlweg (Christ Child Trail). The picturesque village of Boží Dar, nestled on the Ore Mountains plateau, offers a welcome change of pace: culture, history, and the typical atmosphere of the Ore Mountains await you.

The trail leads back to Germany and the idyllic Zechengrund valley. At the end of this valley on the left side is Oberwiesenthal, where you can stop for refreshments.
