This hike follows the Ore Mountains ridge around Bärenstein and leads back to the starting point on the Czech side.
The hike begins at the foot of Bärenstein near the tourist parking lot. Right from the start, the trail follows “Kammweg Erzgebirge-Vogtland” ridge trail, initially along the edge of the forest, then deep into the shady Ore Mountains forest. After a short while, the Cranzahl Reservoir appears. This picturesque spot is ideal for a first rest by the water.
After refreshments, the hike continues to the border town of Bärenstein, which hikers pass through before crossing the border into the Czech town of Vejprty – a truly unique hiking experience. The trail leads from the town past two churches into green meadows and forests. The Anton Günther Memorial is a great place to rest.
The trail then leads through the forest, crosses the border again and returns to Germany. If you are interested, you can take a short detour to the Fichtenhäusel hotel and treat yourself to some culinary delights. The route now rejoins the ridge trail, which will accompany you for the rest of the hike.
The final ascent begins, leading uphill across vast meadows and forests to the summit of Bärenstein. Once at the top, hikers are rewarded with a fantastic panorama at the summit cross, offering views as far as Fichtelberg. The Bärenstein mountain hotel at the summit offers regional specialties – the ideal place for a well-deserved rest.
The return route again follows the ridge trail—this time slightly downhill—back to the starting point at the tourist parking lot. It is a hike that perfectly combines nature, panoramic views, and the experience of crossing borders.
