The circular hiking trail offers magnificent views of the spa town of Oberwiesenthal, its ski slope, and ski jumps.
This tour is named after one of Germany's most successful winter athletes. Eric Frenzel, born in the Ore Mountains, is one of the most famous Nordic combined skiers of all time: multiple world champion, Olympic champion, and five-time overall World Cup winner.
This short but varied circular route starts at the toboggan run in Oberwiesenthal and leads along Vierenstraße from the lively town center. Here, too, there are wonderful views of the Schindelbach valley and the surrounding Ore Mountains landscape. The trail continues into the Ore Mountains forest and passes the Eschenhof mountain hut. It then leads under the cable cars to the Schönjungferngrund valley. This wildly romantic valley, criss-crossed by streams and country paths, enchants visitors with its high biodiversity and natural vegetation.
The route continues to the famous ski jumps in Oberwiesenthal, where many international stars have competed in ski jumping. Just take a look at these facilities and you will see why Oberwiesenthal is a popular center for winter sports.
A path leads back to the town center from the ski jump area. Here you will find more restaurants and the valley station of the Fichtelberg cable car.
