The starting point of this varied sightseeing tour could hardly be more impressive: at the top of Hirtstein you will find not only a viewpoint with breathtaking views of the Ore Mountains, but also a unique natural monument. The fan-shaped basalt outcrop is a fascinating remnant of long-vanished volcanic activity.

From the top, the route leads downhill through the forest to Schmalzgrube station, a quiet stop on the historic Preßnitztalbahn. From here the route continues along the Kammweg Erzgebirge-Vogtland (Ore Mountains-Vogtland Ridge Trail), directly beside the railway track. If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a steam locomotive snaking its way through the narrow valley: a truly nostalgic experience.

The shady stream valley and thoughtfully designed rest areas make the hike to Jöhstadt a pleasure. Hikers pass the Preßnitztalbahn depot and continue along nature trails at the edge of the forest - always with views of the idyllic town. At Dürrenberg the route leaves the ridge path and turns left into the forest.

And now it's time to say: Welcome to the Czech Republic. The way leads through a peaceful forest landscape to Preßnitz reservoir. Below the calm waters lies the former village of Preßnitz, a piece of submerged history, which had to give way for the construction of a drinking water reservoir.

After crossing the dam, the path leads directly to a rising forest trail that winds through quiet, seemingly endless forests. A short detour to the left leads to the picturesque Mönchsfelsen (Monk's Rock), and the trail eventually crosses the border again. Shortly afterwards, the forest opens up to reveal the barren, vast plateau around Satzung. This area exudes a unique beauty.

The hike leads back to the starting point at Hirtstein through the peaceful village centre, a hike full of breathtaking views, fascinating history and the feeling that you have crossed two countries in one day.
